OUR  HISTORY

WinShape Wilderness was founded in 1991 as the fourth program under the WinShape Foundation umbrella. At that time, three programs comprised WinShape: the College Program, WinShape Camps, and WinShape Homes. The Foundation believed a new endeavor would help steward the Challenge Courses and facilities WinShape Camps utilized during the summer but sat vacant during the year.

Since then, we’ve guided thousands of people through adventures and programs for impact beyond experience.

OUR EXPERIENCE
All together, our staff has over 70 years of experience leading groups through experiential learning. And they absolutely love what they do. They’ll ensure your time with WinShape Wilderness is absolutely safe and absolutely enjoyable.

WinShape Wilderness is a member of the Association for Challenge Course Technology (ACCT). Our Challenge Courses are inspected annually according to ACCT guidelines.  WinShape Wilderness is also a member of the Professional Climbing Instructor Association.

Each of our backcountry guides holds a Wilderness First Responder Certification from the Wilderness Medicine Institute of the National Outdoor Leadership School.

 

The technical term for what we do is experiential learning. Here’s a simpler way to say it: learning by doing. It helps the ideas and lessons you’re learning stick. You’re an active participant in the experience, from the activity itself to the reflection—or processing—that happens at the end. We’ve found that it’s what’s in the middle of the experience that provides the most impact: what you discover about yourself and your group. It can change you, your group, and your organization, resulting in cohesive teams, clear communication, and strong leaders.
